The charge stems from a Financial Crimes Investigation initiated in December 2022.
On December 22nd, 2022, the Greenwich Police were contacted by the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich to report a fraud involving one of their financial accounts.
Due to some fraudulent email activity one of the financial staff members sent a wire transfer of over $800,000 dollars.
Greenwich Police said the email, from what they believed to be a verified contact, requested a wire transfer for a known Education and Scholarship Fund, to be sent to the bank account that was awaiting the transfer.
The Boys and Girls Club was then contacted by the Fund’s money manager and were told they had not received the expected monies. It was then realized that the bank that was listed in the wire transfer request was not the normal bank that was used by these funds, and they contacted the police.
Detective First Grade J. Manning was assigned this investigation due to his expertise in the world of financial crimes and scams. Due to Manning’s many successful investigations into financial crimes he is also assigned as a Task Force Officer with the Department Homeland Security, Financial Crimes Investigations.
After a nearly yearlong investigation involving approximately 10 search warrants for various financial institutions, internet sites and wireless providers, DFG Manning was able to determine a suspect and gather enough evidence and probable cause obtain an Arrest Warrant for Debora Marcoccio. The charges on the warrant are for CGS 53a-122 Larceny 1st, a Class B Felony, with a $500,000 bond set on the warrant with the condition that bond could only be posted at the courthouse in Connecticut after a hearing.
Manning was also able to get a significant portion of the stolen monies returned to the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich.
Because Marcoccio lives in Florida, local police were requested to locate Marcoccio and place her under arrest, pending extradition to Connecticut.
She was processed and detained, and appeared Stamford Court on August 22, 2024.
The police report says the bond was set at $500,000, but it was reduced.
According to the CT Judicial Branch website, her bond was reduced to $150,000.
Marcoccio's next scheduled appearance is on Nov. 4.
